Directory Submission for SEO
I would like to show you a very good way that you can get good rankings in Google relatively quickly. One of the key things to getting good rankings with a search engine like Google is that you need a lot of quality links pointing to your website.
So let us look at what the definition of a high quality link is. This basically is a link from a web site that has a lot of authority. For example it could be because the web site offers a large amount of useful information. So in the eyes of the search engine is that it is a trustworthy web site. A really good example of this is Wikipedia. Other examples are forums, directories and newspapers.
I am going to show you a way that you can get a good page rank relatively quickly. Getting quality links to your web site is a very tedious process. You can start off by submitting to quality directories. This does cost money, but will save time.
Here are my list of good quality directories that you can submit to:
Yahoo
Goguides
JoeAnt
Open Directory
MassiveLinks
Skaffe
Starting Point
Uncover The Net
Gimpsy
Best Of The Web
Unfortunately you will not get a lot of traffic from the directory itself, but you will benefit from the high page rank of the directories that will boost your search engine rankings. Just remember to include your targeted keywords in the description of your web site as search engines place a lot of emphasis on this anchor text to rank well.
Another very important thing that you need to do is that you need to ensure that you optimize the content of your web site for long tail keywords.

If you are after Page Rank - I suggest you focus more on relevant blog postings to "dofollow" blogs with high PR. Most directories (quality ones) uses "nofollow" - meaning no PR juice is transferred to your site.
Submitting to directories help in your SERP. Just be sure to submit to quality ones (those with higher PR's) and place your site in the most apt category for better results. Avoid those that require reciprocal links.

Your page rank has no relationship with actual rankings of your website.
The most important thing in SEO is SERP's i.e Search Engine Rankings. PR algorithm is not related to actual SEO Ranking algorithm.

I firmly believe SERP'S are based more on traffic garnered by a website relating to a search phrase made in Google. If the website related to the keyphrase and has a good amount of traffic for that particular search term only them will it feature in the front page of Google when the search is conducted. For that to happen relevancy should be high.Content that is fresh and original and appealing is a must.
High title relevancy is also necessary.Relating well to your keywords is also important.A good SEO score ensures good SERP'S.
Links are important but more in the sense of pagerank in stead of SERPS. What is really important is the page where your link is placed. If the page isn't indexed or cached it is insignificant.Your link should be placed in a page that has traffic and is cached by the Google spiders only then when people visit that particular page there lies all probabilities of visitors re-directing to your website.

I did not mention that SERP has a relationship with PR. I was suggesting to look at the PR of the directories that you will submit to and that directory inclusions help in SERP.

Now I think we both know that is not true. Infact, if you look at the list the man has just provided, all of the directories that he has suggested are both quality, and have their links followed.

One major advantage of directory submission is that it is an easy and rapid way to create link dispersion on search engines without needing to spend too much. But it is a time consuming task. However, software may help to quicken the process, but you still need to supervise the process.

Using directory for link building will take time unlike blog commenting that will take a minute,....So do you want to change your task for easy backlinks or you will stick on snail link building?

Hi folks,
Do you think submission in hundreds of directories is still worth? I think we just need to go with top most of directories as it's not a worth full tactics now days.

Besides the list of directories, i would say there are Tips in Choosing Directories to Submit to
High PR - indication that Google sees some value in the directory.
Well maintained - listed sites are in the proper category
High Traffic - getting traffic could be minimal form directories, but majority are targeted
Kewords ranking high in SERP - Well optimized, shows that the directory is well-marketed and SEO'ed.
hope help

Directory submissions provide increased link popularity.
By and large, the biggest reason that you should use directory submissions as part of your websites optimization and promotion is because of the fact that obtaining incoming links for your website is one of the most important ranking factors in the major search engines ranking algorithms, especially in competitive keyword markets.

Hi,
The results of directory submissions are proved to be permanent and the backlinks that you get through this stays for a long time as it can say that you get permanent backlinks.
But it should be done in proper way that the submission should be done in relevant niche only.
Thanks!!

Google devalued directory links quite alot not so long ago. There are far more efficient ways of building links.

Just like there are thousands of free directories to submit to, there are also plenty of “Paid to List” directories. These directories can change literally any amount the wish, and usually get your listing up within a day of payment. The good thing about these types of directories is that there are less links meaning more PR is spread to your page.
Sometimes, it is worth the money!

Hi All,
Listing on directories only helps in getting traffic and improving PR. But it so much important to explore those directories which shows instant listing. One must need to keep a track of those directories and gives them priorities while doing directory submission.
Also industry specific directory submission shows good results as compared to general directory listing.
Thanks
