i don't know much about the professional use of google earth but i only use google earth for entertainment purpose.. and to find locations...

Google Earth allows you to browse high resolution satellite imagery with other databases of information such as weather, points of interest, landmarks, borders and a lot of other things layered on top of the base satellite imagery.

Google Earth presents all this information in a easily browse-able and understandable form.

Google earth is very useful to search many places . We can find any place by this easily . My some friend use this for entertainment purpose. But this is very good both point of view.
