Default Natural Linking

I have been reading a lot about SEO lately, especially as it relates to blogs. I have a couple of blogs and they are rapidly becoming my biggest money maker. After reading multiple tutorials I am convinced that Google is starting to penalize sites that just have multiple link exchanges that are primarily used to build up PR and traffic. The best way to get a boost in the search engines is to have other sites naturally link to you. How do you do that? By writing quality content that another sites feels the need to link to and comment on. Also, if you naturally link to another similar site and comment on their content, drop them an e-mail and ask them to reciprocate. Your thoughts?

Xenigo content is the key; my personal site and my biggest site receive natural links. Since I never buy or trade links with any one, after all there is no point trying to game the search engines. Only if people concentrated on creating content and good sites rather than on gaming search engines all the time, we would have a far better internet.

You took the words right out of my mouth. If people took half the energy they devote to tricking Google into developing their content they wouldn't have to worry about their SE placement, and they wouldn't have to worry about getting caught and banned. it does seem that Google is getting smarter in catching this, especially with porn links that used to get front page listings for completely unrelated keywords.

llqi, you are right both are important, but off-page factors make up about 80% IMHO
