One tip.
If you could give a newbie one tip to help him or her market his site well, what would it be?
I think this thread could be useful for any newcomers.

Find a Niche you can talk a lot about

I would agree - don't worry about high paying keywords and all the hype about making thousands with adsense.
Go for a topic in which you can say you are an expert or about which you are passionate. Look at your interests, hobbies and career.
Keep building and growing your site as time permits - hopefully consistently. If you only have an hour a week, make sure that hour is used to add another piece of content.
Lastly, do not just focus on one income stream. Look to other methods in your niche and work them naturally into your site.

Like Jason and Wesley said, content is the key. Search engine and people in general love content, doesn’t matter if its text, images or videos, as long as you have unique and interesting content and you can some what market your site, traffic will follow.

I would also say to find a niche that hasn't already been exploited to Hell and back. It amazes me that newbies will try to emulate the sites that are already popular, like celebrity sites, which have been saturated to the point of no return. Find a smaller niche that you are interested in, do a Google search for it, and if there aren't already 10 billion pages on it you are on to something. Chances are others are also searching for this and want quality content on it.

We all know the celebrity blog/news thing has been done and saturated, so if you don't have the writing skills to make it more interesting then Perez Hilton, TMZ, etc then it's not a good idea to bother.
What are some of your interests? I am personally into Mixed Martial Arts, and although the topic is starting to get a bit saturated the sport is still growing in leaps and bounds. One of my blog is all about MMA. I also see a lot of websites on horse racing, but very few on harness horse racing, which a lot of people still bet on. Just think a bit outside the box.

Xenigo is right, thinking out of the box and concentrating on the niches you are interested in is the key. No one can tell you what a profitable niche is, because some time you have to create one yourself.

Do what you like to do? Just about any niche is able to monetized quite well so the best thing a newb could do is start off with a site that they like, if your favorite hobby is underwater basket weaving make an UBW site and monetize it with ebay affiliates for crafts. So my tip is everything can be monetized so spend time on content you enjoy.

Is there something special with ebay affiliates? I am not aware that Ebay has such a program. Anyway I might consider it with the good suggestions mentioned in this thread.

This is a good idea for a blog, this way you can also do paid reviews once your blog becomes famous, which I believe it would if you write reviews properly.

there are lots of ideas... but if you want to become a pro you will need to join some affilate programs that can assure you make leads or sales, only rely on ppc is a waste of time, (my opinion)
