I agree with you on back links being very important. This was the first thing I went about doing when I first started my current website, and I found it worked rather well.

Without back links you wouldn't have a pr so its deftly important in getting a high pr. That said you should never get links just because you think it will raise your pr because unless you are a directory having a high pr wont directly result in more money. You should focus on getting back links that provide your site with good consistent traffic so you can make money on affiliates.

I believe back links are the single biggest factor that affects your PR, however PR doesn’t actually means more traffic and traffic is what I normally target.

Back links are very important on increasing page rank of the site. Also your site more appear on the website. In order to increase backlink one idea is provide RSS feeds.
I have one question is outgoing link on the site decrease the pagerank? Did it have any negative effect on the page rank of the site?

To me, this is the key to backlinks. Who cares what the PR is? What does it do for your pocket book. You can have a good PR and still not receive a level of traffic to increase your earnings.

Always go for the earnings potential by growing targetted traffic with backlinks.

I'd rather have money in my pocket with a PR 0 than a high PR and no money.

Of course you can always sell a domain for a good price if it has high PR, which seems is the deciding criteria for many to value a domain.

Let's get even more basic for true newbies! What exactly is a backlink?

Does having your link in a forum signature and then posting in the forum creating backlinks, or does that not help?

Back links are increasingly important. The more you have the better chance of a higher PR. These backlinks are pretty easy to access, such as forum signatures, directory submissions etc etc.

The source of backlinks should be related to your site niche. Search engines are smart enough to determine whether they are relevant or not.

Yes very true, because google are cracking down on this. But following this, they can't really track you down for anything wrong. Thus, not affecting your sites PR. Is this what you have done?

Its not a metter of thinking, google stated itself that one of the leading aspects of PR is backlinks, but if you get not quality backlinks so it will hurt you! google will spot you and tag your site.

For me, backlinks have only gotten a good PR and not so much traffic. So its only usefullness is limited to getting a good PR and thats it.

For getting good traffic, I think content is the king
