It helps to get links directly from sources that would be considered trusted seed sites in algorithms like DMOZ, the Yahoo! Directory, and Wikipedia might be considered obvious authorities and trust seed sites.

It can be done for good search engine ranking, increasing link popularity and attracting more traffic to self-owned website

2. Search Engine Submission
3. Link Exchange
4. Participate in Forums
5. Article Submission
6. Press Release Submission
7. Social Media Bookmarking

9. Social Networking
10. Video Marketing

The best one in my view is the link exchange, though it's not so popular in recent days. Find the relevant, high quality web site would be the best way of link building, and I need to say it's quite difficult but another thing we need to know is that we should emphasis on the quality not the quantity of links

you should focus on links placed on website similar to yours and make sure your anchor text is a keyword you want to rank for.

if you're developping a website in a competitive area, avoid the obvious keywords. For instance, 'car insurance'. Big companies are splashing out big money to get tons and tons of links for this keyword, so try to go for the less competitive keywords, yes the long tail.

And what's good, you visitors will be more likely to convert too.

your question seems a bit vague, what do you mean by best types of links to build? of course it is your website and its subpages with a certain keyword you choose right? maybe you were asking what are the best places to build links..

Links need to have high-quality content for them not to be flagged as spam. In forums and blog commenting, the comments must make sense and contribute to other readers or else it will just be deleted by the site owner.

I think that the best links come from the blog-posts with unique and original content. And it's very good if the PR of the blog is more that 3. But this kind of links are very difficult to get.

If the opponent site's rank and SERP is better than you, there is only one way to get the backlink from them. You have to be their dealer or you have to sign a partnership contract.

Work on one way link building.
