it doesn't hurt to try avatar advertising, but this is really tricky for you need to spread your avatar all throughout the web and make it famous that it will stick on people's minds..

If you are a really popular forum member with lots of forum posts on very popular forums then your avatar will be looked upon by thousands which may be a very good method of marketing.

Avatar advertising is just a mere supplement that should not be depended upon for one's traffic except you are expecting say 3 uniques per month~~~
Doing SEO for 10 days will be more beneficial than having an avatar advert on 1 000 000 000 forum posts.

Avatar promotions is something which i dont do to make money, its just like a way of promoting my service but dont expect a business growth with it. You may want to increase your chances of your site being seen by making an attractive avatar, hire someone if you dont have the skills to make a eye appealing one, that should help.

There are different ways to make money from it.

1 - As a forum member:
You get paid for displaying ads from advertisers on your avatar. This is done automatically, so you don't have to worry to sell your space individually on your own. 2- As a forum owner:
