You can submit to free web directories, especially sites that have good PR. Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have also made it easier for businesses to advertise and build networks.

There are four way to advertise your site - SEO, via social networking platforms, PPC and Banner advertising.... All four ways are effective, you just need to choose the way fits your needs and budget.

I would begin by writing articles and then submit to social bookmarking sites.

your question is too vague, you can try to clarify things like your website niche, anyway back to your question..
first is to think of your targeted traffic, like who's the person you want to visit your site, are they males or female, young or old or maybe middle age people, as this will make it easier for you to know where you should put your advertisements.
you can advertise website through social media sites, such as facebook, myspace and twitter.. how to do this? simple gain reputation over this social networking sites, look for people who has the same interest as yours for these people will be the one visiting your site with every updates you have done or whenever they need something from your site. also ensure that you are not always advertising, give some helpful tips or try to help them with some of their problems, if you are doing good within these sites referrals will come next.
SEO is proven effective that can bring higher return of investment, with the right procedures you will gain traffic that may convert to sales or leads, you can read more information about this through sites like seomoz or from matt cutts..

By using the power of ebooks to promote your products or services you can increase site traffic and generate more revenue. Improve the effectiveness of your email marketing. Ask people at the end of your copy why they decided not to buy. Think of ways to get your site or business in the the news.

Depends on how much budget you have separated to advertise your website. You can consider different forms of cpc advertising such as adwords, adengage etc depending upon how your site performs in such networks.

SEO and SEM can be the ways. You should start with PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising like Google Adwords and also make a SEO on the other hand.

Go to advertising sites, most of them are free. If you want to introduce your site to social networks, be sure your not spamming. Do the white hat method and everything will go smoothly.

If you can be a little bit patient and hardworking, then i'll suggest you to practice SEO.
Just look round this forum or search for "SEO" related terms with search engines and you will get a whole lots of information there.

Gaining web presence for your site first necessitates having content useful to your target audience. After establishing good content, the rest is hard work - forum posts, article submissions, social network site presence. You have to keep at it for weeks and even months.

The best way to build a lot of one-way links, which takes up a lot of time. I suggest you devote some time every day to do this.

If you think about all the things you can and have to do to promote your site, you might as well job this out. Unless you want to allot some hours per day writing articles using selected keywords (you should have researched and found the less competitive keywords before that), rewriting the same articles for submission to article directories and press release sites, leaving comments on various forums and blogs, building up your social networking presence through SNS, and so on.

Small businesses might want to hire affordable SEO specialists, since they are limited by their budget and know how in the jungle of online promotion. But bloggers can go right ahead, since their only outlay are Internet connectivity, content on their blogs, and time spent promoting their site.
