I would keep only the good ones that bring content to your site. crappy comments like "thanks for the info" bring down the keyword value of your page.

Blog commenting is a great way to generate traffic, comments are important in blogs before it where you interact with other bloggers and readers. As long as the comment is worth saying and add value to the content.

It never dawned on me that letting people make comments actually builds a community and keeps people coming back.

Spam was terrible, though you have many posts but most of them were spam, I don't think it means a good reputation for you blog, so I also suggest you delete them, quality is always much more important that the quantity

Overall the comments don't add any value to article, so either keep on moderating or cancel comments

Always stick with the content you are commenting with, if you post irrelevant content that is not compatible with the post you are sharing with the blog post then it can be possible to get low ranking

Default comments on blogs

wesley,

Comments on blogs have to be quality and relevant to post, otherwise delete them. Comment should add value to post or be itself quality content.

Blog commenting is great way to build backlinks. But many comments are just spam. I agree that you should allow users to login before they can leave comment. Its a great way to counter the spam.. Akismet is also a great way to combat spam comments.

Right, you should make considerable research. if you can find a list of do follow blogs that are relevant to your niche, you've found a very useful potential backlink source. Make sure that your links are relevant to specific threads and do not spam the blogs. After all, no blog will reject useful, meaningful and relevant comments.

I think the comments can reflect if your posts are popular or not. If they are not related to your posts, just delete them.

I don't see any downside really??

Is that true??

I have noticed that many people these days just spam others blog without saying anything that even related to the blog content at all!

Rather than make 10 so-so posts every day, make 3-5 really good ones. If you want to increase exposure, the 10 so-so ones will help in the short term, but in the long run 3-5 good ones will grow the subscriber base more.

You can probably use a commenting system that allows a user to leave a comment once she logs in, or includes her site's url and her email address (hidden to the public of course). This will dissuade pranksters and prevent scripts from stuffing your comment boxes or threads with spam stuffed with links.
