the newbie's think that doing all the methods at a time helps to increase their rank and traffic, but they don't realize that, the way they are going can cause spam and could be banned by google.

You should make considerable research. if you can find a list of do follow blogs that are relevant to your niche, you've found a very useful potential backlink source. Make sure that your links are relevant to specific threads and do not spam the blogs. After all, no blog will reject useful, meaningful and relevant comments.

Thanks for clarifying but your reply raises more questions:
specifically... please define "get links"
how does one "get" a link? presumably you are talking about someone else's website? So how do I get a link on a website that isn't mine?

I completely agree with that percentage. You need to spend most of your time link building, and much less time on content.

It is easier said than done.
There are people who are not patient at all like I used to be at first.
Then i would create a new site and comment on about five blogs and the next thing is to start loging intor my visitors tracking account to see if I've had any visitors and a "0 visitors today" reports starts to mark the end of that project if you will understand what I mean.
Getting to know what to do is simple but following those steps requires patience.

It's good to know people are cataloguing steps/phases/procedures/timetables as is done on this thread. Still, the whole process looks complicated to a beginner. I've seen an affiliate program where the hook on is catchy - earn on the side, all you need is your website. It marks steps involved - sign up, post banner links on your site, get paid via check or PayPal. Of course it can't be THAT easy. But the steps outlined looks like a no-clutter approach.
I was wondering if we can do that here. Something along choose a niche, research and compile good articles to rewrite as content, sign up for a free blog, upload rewritten content stuffed with less competitive keywords, build back links by submitting other rewrites to article directories and by being active in high page rank forum, and so on.
