4 steps to good SEO
There are four keys to good SEO.
(1) First, you must research the amount of traffic various keywords are receiving.
(2) Second, you must modify your site to include the exact keywords phrases in the meta tagging and text.
(3) Third, you must add and add and add content to your site. The more content, the more the big three will like your site.
(4) Finally, you must trade links with other sites that have content related to your site.

Link trading is so 20th century. You want one-way links. You can get those by posting articles to article directories or by running ads at USFreeAds.com
Reciprocal links have a tendency to cancel each other out.

Before going to the second step, I recommend everyone to analyze the competition first. I used to jump in when I see high traffic keywords. I ended up wasting lots of time and money because it might take me years to rank on the first page since every site there have high PR.
Trading links is not a good option now. I prefer to build links through bookmarking, dofollow blog commenting and web & article directories submitting.

point 3 and 4 are myths. I see so many static sites that rank top 10 in search engines. Do they update their contents frequently? I don't thinks
point 4, trade links. You don't have to trade links. You can always get one way free links pretty easily. So it is NOT correct

That is right to add the content for your site based on the list of the keywords but they should be very interesting and useful.

I agree with the second point. Some newbie's don't know how to find the exact keywords for their website. This is a good way to find the proper keywords, just visit the competitive sites, do research on their sites, what keywords they are using, which type of sites they have linked. This can help out a lot.

Hi Robdale,
Online groups are groups made by various search engines and communities for discussion and gathering similar interest people. Google Groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups are various example of such.

that's not necessarily correct. Search engines aren't much good (yet :-) at detecting 'quality', except by once-removed indicators (such as backlinks). What they ARE good at is detecting UNIQUENESS. So quality can often be better than quality, at least in the short term.
