It's difficult to give tips on general marketing since a lot of it depends on your product and budget. The easiest and most reliable marketing is obviously spending money on ads, whether it's online or offline. But the cheapest, of course, is word of mouth. If you have a good network of friends, start with that.

Well, sometimes its not only the cost but the product that you are offering. You have to take a look how consumer will like the products you have and optimized it well can drive traffic in your site. Freebies sometimes are needed in able to attract them and go in your site.

General marketing just seems so general. But I agree that face to face promotion is better..
