You can't have enough visitors Till you got Top of the google Place , So for this you have to do Some SEo on your site , beside search engnines Social media networking is best way to get traffic on your site , And blog commenting and posting on forums are also very good ways to increase your traffic , so try them , well directory submissions Are just worthless now a days people don't like to search sites in directories , they just like to search something via search engines , So just forget about directories

It would depend if the OP wants his visitors to see how many have already visited his site. Personally, I think its not a good idea to do so especially if the site is just new and traffic is really scarse.

You could make use of live counter but it still depends on OP’s preference. You might want to see how many visitors have visited your site. On my opinion, this is not a good point for sites with scarce traffic and just newly launched.

I think both are good but if you want to find IP address who visit your website then Statcounter is better than Google analytic.
