I would suggest learning some coding (HTML, PHP, CSS, photoshop etc). And also do some researching on SEO, by going through forums such as this and DP especially. Also remember that google is your best friend.

After a little bit of homework, start out on your site, look at your strengths then choose your niche and the kind of site you can do.

learn css/html/php and practice some design with a program like photoshop.
Then where you go from there depends on what you like to do or want to do, spend some time reading and posting on forums like this or DP,SP,etc but the one thing that traps most webmasters to be is that they get caught in the numbers and research. Dont worry about how much money or hits other people are getting and please dont pay for "secret insights" because if you look their tip is probally being told for free.

One of the things I might do, is watch forums and boards for a while until you get comfortable and then ease your way into participating. Forums are excellent tutorials and will help in places that manuals lose out.

Also, you might see people on the forum that you can contact to do grunt work for them so you can learn while you do. As long as you are honest up front and let them know you are learning.

Lastly, just jump in and do something - whether it turns out bad or good, just do it - build a site and try something.

Getting in the website business is a long and hard way but it pays off and you can learn a ton. Start reading every bit of information you can find about niche websites, about affiliate marketing, about making money in the best and efficient way, and get the info you learn to reality.

Learning PHP, CSS and HTML, XHTML, AJAX, JRuby is great.
JRuby especially if you are starting out to make a Web2.0 company.

That's some good advice. What is the whole Web 2.0 thing? I have seen it all over the place, but I have no idea what it is.

Your first move should be to find your mentor. You need somebody to guide you along the way because of overwhelming information available around. It is also important that you must find time to learn on your own .
