Default points to remember when using affiliate links

Many people think they can get rich by sticking up some banners on their website and pushing product sales through the banner.

In most instances, this is not possible. You need to understand how to pre-sell your visitor. And the more expensive the product is, the harder it will be to sell without trust. Someone may not buy on the first visit or even the second so you need to make them feel like they know you.

To add to my point:

Another mistake of affiliate marketers is putting up banners and links that do not provide adequate information about the product. To compensate this, affiliates should strive to provide content that work hand-in-hand with the links. The features about the product must be written accurately in detail – in a way that it encourages every visiting user to click the link and purchase the product.
Selling your own product or someone else's is not easy work and needs good common sense applied.

I know where you're coming from.
For people to trust you, you need to have alot of positive feedback- you need people who are willing to back you up and let everyone else know that you don't take advantage of people, etc., I haven't personally sold anything online, but I'm definitely thinking of doing so.
I'll take a look at that though, thanks.

In the internet people are not looking for trust or others they know, people are looking for Entertainments and Information, if some one reach your site and get the information he/she is looking for he will follow your recommendation to see related products and other websites you recommend. be professional and people will click your affiliate links

The reality is that with so many idiots out there peddling so much crap then your integrity as a seller is more important than ever. Sellers who create an environment for buyers where they feel comfortable, have some access to owners and decent feedback - and some guarantee that they can RELY on, will win out everytime.

I would hope that very few people think that the way to make money from affiliate marketing is to stick up a few banner ads, but I fear that you may be right

That many people who own sites and have blogs think that sticking a banner link on their site will instantly cough them out money is popular myth. After all it's easy to put up a blog, and to manipulate the code. Why shouldn't sticking a banner link not magically end up earning them on the side? Well, first off, the blog reader should be of the crowd that's "into" the product sold. Second, the blog should contain articles that might "inspire" the reader to consider clicking on the banner link.

This train of reasoning luxiriously assumes the blog has a "following" that fits the affiliate product's niche. If not, the blog has a lot of content tweaking and SEO to do.

I totally agree with just about everything I've read in this thread. It is imperative that you build a strong relationship with the visitors to your site. Getting someone to visit your site has been a problem for most online marketers. There are several companies that provide you with videos on list building. I have been looking for a company that provides me with a website, hosting, email marketing information ect. I'm getting close to settling on a specific company. I may need more research.

Affiliate marketing really needs a lot of hard work and you should have fine internet marketing skills as well. It also depends a lot upon the product that you select for marketing.

Affiliate marketing is tough, you need to find products that's easy to sell - and the more relevant the products are to ex. your blog - the easier it is to sell.
and like others have said before in this thread - everything comes down to trust! If they feel they know you, it's all that more easy - but be honest, and sell stuff you can possibly recommend if you have a review of the product on your affiliate site t.ex

You're right Pengerik. Credibility is the most important aspect of any business. How to establish credibility is another story. It's like asking yourself, "How can I get people to like me?" If you provide credible products along with customer service that goes beyond what your customer expects, then they'll keep coming back for more.

Great words of wisdom. It's probably the most neglected concept of online marketing. They think that as long as they get traffic in, they can sell anything they stick on their site. Trust of the readers should be considered first before introducing any product that you might want to endorse. The higher your quality of content is, the better marketing strategy you have.

I have created a team of CRM which keeps track of the customers or potential customers in my site.It has been effective so far as far as repeated customers are considered.
