Default not a good idea to develop one large name

I have agonized over developping a very good one word name that I own. I finally took the plunge last month and developped about 10 mini sites each with its own design and topic.

The sites are not linked in any way, nor does the home page have any links to the sites. They operate independently. I thought it might be a lot cheaper than buying more domains (which I don't need) plus when I get the urge to speak out on a topic, I could write immediately and upload the file.

This morning, I was doing some random checking and it hit me that when you type
site:domainname.com

into the search engines, you get all pages so basically you have just given away all your ideas and keywords.

If the sites were on individual domains, no-one would know what else you own. I am not sure I like the idea of someone having access to my whole business model.

so you created 10 "sites" each with a different subdomain on the same domain? More info is needed. Either way sounds like you need 10 different domains if you dont want them to be associated with one another.

Make a onscreen video and post it to several video sharing sites. Article submissions is a very effective way too to get more visitors!

Owning a couple of websites is ok, in my opinion. It is more difficult to manage them, but you have less chance to remain with nothing. In case one of the websites has problems, you still have the rest.

It certainly sounds like a poor approach that you've taken, especially given how cheap domain names are.

A good lesson for newbies.

If you dont want others to access your whole business model via the search engines, then you grab the bull by the horn:
"restrict the search engines from indexing your pages lol"
Its as simple as that.

Yes. Submit an article to popular article directory will give you a lot of FREE traffic. Or you can try to submit an article you own to social bookmarking sites such as, StumbleUpon, Digg, and so on.

Maintaining 10 sites is not at all easy so its better to create one site and just start proper marketing.
For best promotion, start video promotion and RSS feeds.

Thanks.

You must have a lot of zest to "maintain" ten sites that operate independently. How do we quantify "maintain" here? Do you periodically upload fresh, keyword-rich content in each of the sites? Do you take part in forum posting and article submissions using links from all ten sites? That's a logistical hurdle right there.

The good thing about having your sites on the same domain and linking to each other is if visitors go to your games site for example and then want to also check out your videos site, they can easily click on a link to do that. With different sites on the same domain, personally I think it's best to make them all look like one site.

It's also far easier to advertise that one domain and also grow it's backlinks meaning higher rankings in the search engines.

2 or 3 sites are ideal number for SEO, first start seo of one. Then place its link on other and then work for 2nd, in the same way for 3rd
