The best way in my opnion is :

1. Quality Content (unique, original, fresh).
2. Well formed HTML (W3C)
3. Link building ( only natural links pointing to your site )

A good way to drive traffic is to make some videos about your topic and upload them to YouTube. The videos don't have to be ultra professional, just talk about something you are good at and put your website link in the description of your video. That is one way people can access your site thus drive traffic to your site.
