Default Transferring a domain name from someone else

I'm going to take over the managing of a website from someone else. They have already registered the domain. The registrar is Gandi. I want to transfer it to my hosting - Just Host.

How do I do this? (or how do they do it?)

I'm not really sure of the difference between a hosting company and registrar.

thanks

It is really simple. Just manage the domain by pointing the dns setting to the dns of your hosting server where you want to direct the website. And then, add the website domain on the addon domain on your webhosing control panel. And then, add your website files to the directory of the added domain. But you need several settings on your sql database details and the site configuration. The settings are related to the changes of the domain name.

Oh, ya, if you want to transfer the domain, can or cannot is depending on the web hosting rules. There are web hosting that allowing transfer domain, but there are some others that not allowing to do it. Usually, transferring domain need cost to do for certain web hosing service.

I just change the name server at the domain vendor site such as Godaddy, after your client add the domain to their site. In that process you might need to have an authorization code that they can request, and an email will send to your email that u purchased the domain with the pass, and u just tell them the authorization code. To sell the whole site rather than domain, u can export sql database and download your file tree from ftp, then load the site file tree to your destination domain ftp. And import the sql.

I did it before, just don't know if i left out any steps. Correct me if i made a mistake on this post. It was a while ago i deal with this.

I agree with Vivianso. That is the correct way on how you can transfer your domain. I have similar experience just like what vivianso experienced.
