TLD's??

we all know about the .gov tld but what if they made a government tld for every state
like .nj .ny .mn ....ect

that would make it alot easier for local libraries and schools and stuff
www dot libraries dot nj all of NJ's library website comes up ....well bad example but you get my point

I am kind of shocked it already isn't in place. In Canada, each province has its own so I just assumed it was the same in the US.

Maybe I am getting confused with sub domains on the government site but I am sure there is something.
