Default Too many TLD's?

I was just reading the thread about .in domains from India, and I'm really starting to believe that there are already too many TLD's as it is. I think the only benefit is for the people that are making money off the registration fees. For a while there was a big stink in the adult webmaster community regarding a .xxx TLD that no one wanted except the people that were trying to start the TLD, and that was because they stood to make a huge profit off of it. luckily .xxx was shot down. Aren't there enough TLD's already?

For the TLD .COM, it is now difficult to find a good domain name. If ever there is one available, you have to buy it from cyber squatters with their own price. Having additional TLDs can filter futher various domain names. Anyway regardless of your TLD, it is still your site content that matters in so far as search engines are concerned.

ICANN is planning to launch even more TLD's next summer. I believe that they keep launching new ones due to the large amount of extra revenue that is created at the launch of these new TLD's.

Well I say, the more the merrier! Why not having more TLD's? People are going crazy about TLD's and it's hard to find a good name lately! I am planning to start a website but can't find a good domain name!!

.com, .net, .edu, .gov and .org + all the country TLD's are all that should be needed IMO. And only people who live in the country should be allowed to register a domain with that TLD. If it was like that there'd be a lot more relevant sites out there, and if you were looking for something relevant to a specific country you'd just have to type it in the address bar and add that TLD

So you are saying that if you live in US, then you can register a .US domain, and if someone else lives in another country he won't be able to use a .US?

Then what about the .COM, .NET, .COM etc..?

I think adding additional TLD's weakens the value of a good TLD that someone owns the .com of. If I have domainname.com and I have spent years branding it and building up it's value, I don't want some dirt bag buying domainname.info and diluting my brand by spamming off of it.

I totally agree with what you have just said. The problem is though, that we are just going to eventually run out of domain names so need to keep adding new TLDs.
