How to choose domain name?
A domain name provides an identity to the business. While buying a domain name you need to note down the name of the website domain names and its nearest ones so that if you do not get that particular domain name, then you can go for the nearest one (for example, if you require a mattress website then you can buy a mattresse dot com, choosing-a-mattressdot com, allmattress dot com, bestmattress dot com etc)
If you want a domain name for your personal use, then use your name, surname etc. For your business domain name you can go for a domain name with catch phrases. You can check whether the domain name is available or not by searching through whois dot org
It’s not necessary that you have to get a domain name with .com, you can buy .net, .us etc. If you like a domain name and would like to buy that particular name but it is registered with somebody else, then you can contact that person in the administrative contact section through whois search from the website. Sometimes domain name owners sell their domain names. Domain names have value and if the domain name is a unique one, then it could be sold for a higher rate.

Yes you are absolutely right. Domain name should be unique. It should be short, not more than 7 characters.

In choosing a domain name... the most important factors are:
It should be unique, short, catchy, descriptive of what your website's all about, not similar to your competitors' site, and also not a trademark violation/infringement

Although there are many new domain extensions available, dotcom is still the best choice. When typing in a web address, Internet users automatically want to type in a .com extension, since this is the extension that has been embedded into our brains from the start.

not only dot com, there are many other domain extensions, certainly dot com is the best extension,if the domain name you want has been registered, you can do it as ish221100 said, or you can choose other extensions, they are valued too, best ....

Hi,
Choosing Domain names should go with your business, It is should not be too long, the domain age should be old, as older the domain age the better it is trustable by the search engines.
Also, as far as SEO concerns than targeted Keywords should be added in the Domain name.
Thanks!!

ACTION Step #1: Pick a topic you're "irrationally passionate" about.
ACTION Step #21: Boil the topic down to one word. For example: "homeschooling"
ACTION Step #3: Check Google's keyword tool to determine what people are typing in to find information on that topic.
ACTION Step #4: Pick a keyword to focus on that has at least 30,000 searches, no more than 300,000 - just a rule of thumb.
(I also suggest you make a list of 20 to 30 keywords to be used in your articles, blog posts, etc. - more of this in another post.)
ACTION Step #5: Pick a dot COM domain name with that keyword in it.
ACTION Step #6: Register the dot COM and dot ORG version of the domain name.

I agree with crazedpanda but think that the dot NET is also valuable. Just my two cents.

I could not agree more. Choosing a best name for your domain related to your business is the wisest thing to start. You can see the effect of this in your online marketing. Surely you will be benefited from it.

yes, .com would be a good tld as it is recognized well worldwide but since its become saturated and most of the good domains are not available, you could go for .net or .info , and get your site monetized.

I always like branded domains, but I must admit that keywords based web addresses work good.
