Directory submissions works fine?

I never get success with directory submissions. I think it is considered as spam (I am not sure), Is that true? I don't think these will not help with SERP? What do you guys think about it?

I agree with you. It has never worked for me either. Secondly, now Google is tracking the websites getting backlinks from web directories and premium sites and penalizing them.

Secondly, they offer free submissions and i dont think they ever accept them. They just post the links of premium submissions.

it is not spam actually but do not have much percentage in boosting your site in google. but these are the best way to make the site index able. search engines collect data from them

Directory submission is very effective if done properly... Search engines give preference to directories like Google directory, DMOZ and Yahoo!
These are human edited directories which is it takes time for listing your website.

If you submit your site to reputed and high page rank directories then it can get you several quality back links. Submitting on zero PR directories is worthless.
Every day some one comes up with a new directory for release so its losing importance.

Well directories wth high PR and also do follow should be great for backlinks and also classified directories are also worth working
