I agree, I would also choose manual submissions over automatic, but I have a feeling some of these manual submitters are probably actually using automated methods and pretending they are not. Afterall it's more money for them and if they have a good automating method that's working for them, then that entices them to use that automating method to earn money quicker.

I go with manual submission for two reasons: first, crawlers always like more natural submission; second, with all these changes Google makes, who know in the future how it will see the auto-submitted links? Better not to worry about this and go for manual.

Digixmas has software that you can use for "semi-automatic submission." It's hard to explain, but to anyone interested, check it out. I've gotten a lot of directories to include my site by using this software. It comes with its own directory list when you download it, but you can load your own directory txt file list into the application...
