Computer speed depends on several factors. if your hard disk space is more you require more RAM for that. Stop all your unwanted Services running in your system. Follow these steps Start>run>msconfig .This will open system configuration utility. Uncheck the services and startups you do not require from their respective tabs. This might help you.

It may be caused by virus, or spyware. Download all the updates for each program and scan continue until all the virus are gone. Try adding another RAM. Make sure its the same value as the older one - if its 16 bit or 32 bit.

You can also speed up it by disabling some windows useless services.

Hello Friend,
Many times, computer runs slow because of problems due to hard drive defragmentation, a shortage of physical or virtual memory, spyware, malware, viruses and similar problems.

Thanks,
James

Try the following steps one by one to check if your system speed is normal

Step 1
Run Disk Cleanup
Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup

Step 2
Check the startup programs in the system configuration utility.
Select Run, Type MSConfig and click OK.
Choose startup tab in the System configuration
You’ll see a list of programs running at startup, uncheck the unwanted programs.

Step 3
Check for unwanted programs and uninstall.
Control Panel/ Add/Remove programs

Step 4
Check if the system has active Anti virus program. Install anti virus application if the system doesn’t have one. Scan the system for any infection.

Step 5

Run Disk defragmenter
Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk defragmenter

Step 6

Try adding RAM to your system.

Step 7

Finally backup your system and reinstall the OS.

Follow these steps one by one and check if the system works well.

There are a lot of good ways to speed up the computer. But in your case it would be better to upgrade your hardware and to have 1 and more gb of RAM.

If you are running XP then this shows that your PC is quite old.Increasing the RAM to 1GB might help!!

Well, the first thing i would recommand you to do is to trow away your computer to buy a new one =p. If you can't, i think that you can upgrade your ram to 512 or 1024 at least. In you case the ram IS the thing that is slowing your computer.
