Joomla vs Drupal
I am planning to create a portal-like site. I am considering either of the two CMS' mentioned in the topic.
So what do you guys think which one should I go for, I have used both a little, I prefer Joomla for the eye candy but don't really know the actual pros and cons of both. Any input will be appreciated or if you have any other CMS in mind, do tell me.
Thanks

Well from my experience it's hard to install Drupal than joomla. You can look at :
http://opensourcecms.com/
There is demo for both visitors and administration, so you can test yourself how much you can comfortable with both of them. Drupal offer much flexibility, but you need to be good at coding.

Installation is not that hard for either one of them. I've installed them both.
Actually I was interested in someone's opinion who has used both.

In My opinion Drupal is best, Just you need a little brain to use it, Drupal is the best because it is easy, Joomla is just an attraction, not a nice software for the site.

What type of site matters
Some CMS programs are definitely easier to use than others and some are better suited for particular types of sites than others, so knowing what sort of site you are trying to build will help us give you better ideas on which one to use. I've used Xoops, Joomla and Drupal and like all three but would consider Drupal to be a bit tougher for newbies to use. My personal preference for most sites is Xoops but part of the reason is that I've used it the most and the longest. Joomla is probably the easiest for a newbie to use, but it's not quite as flexible as I would like in some areas.

You should use Joomla for your site.It is better than Drupal. It is easy to work on and you can easily manage your content. Also Joomla has the ability to connect with SMF and create a wonderful site.

My choice is Joomla. Great Functionality and also having some mind blowing modules... I think there is no comparison between Joomla and Drupal.

I've used Joomla and Wordpress and I'd have to say that hands down Wordpress was much better. Although the debate between Wordpress and Drupal is what I'm most concerned about. From your write up I guess I am going to have to check it out for myself then.

While Joomla!makes use of the plug-ins for the additional functionality, but Drupal uses modules.
These differences,I think would surely help you to make a choice between the two according to your website requirements. A good web design and development agency can make the work easier for you and make a choice.

Drupal is best..
Drupal is a mediocre CMS with an over-bearing framework underneath.
Think: more framework, less CMS.

I would prefer joomla for simplicity and stability. Think you have already knew these features of the CMS.
