Default Bing as default for browsers

I've noticed that the default search engine for the Crome and FireFox browser is Bing. In other words, if you type no domain, but just words, then it will come up with a search in the bing search engine.

Just wondering why that happens rather than it coming up with Google.

Is it because Microsoft owns Bing and also owns the computers Operating system?

Well that's a new one for me but definitely sounds interesting .Guess microsoft owning OS should be the reason behind this otherwise chrome should come with google atleast .
