Affiliate program or affiliate marketting involves your partnering with a website to help them promote their product(s) and you also benefitting in one way or the other in the process.
The name already says it all. It is a kind of mutual partnership that is of great benefit to both parties involved.

Building an affiliate business is one of the easiest ways to start a business online. You don't need your own products, you don't have to provide customer service, and in fact, you don't even need a website. If you want to earn real profits from an affiliate business though, then you need real strategies for getting traffic and earning profits.
Now, if you're already a member of an affiliate program, the next thing you need to do is work on earning more commissions.

Affiliate marketing is basically an online business, where affiliate programs reward you (the affiliate) for each visitor or client registered/deposited/bought the product.
You sign up, choose the reward plan - CPA, revenue share, hybrid etc., pick up tracking link and advertising material and start promoting.
With enough time and efford, you will see the profits

Affiliate marketing is a type of online marketing strategy that works through an affiliate program. When a particular website owner is in an affiliate program with a merchant, that website owner places advertisements on the website that help market, sell, or simply advertise the merchant's products and brands. As part of the affiliate program agreement, the website owner gets a share of the profits on conversions made through the said advertisements. There are a number of ways the website owners can earn through affiliate programs and these include the following:
Pay per click affiliate programs - In pay per click affiliate programs, the website owner is paid a fixed amount of money for every click on an advertisement linked to the affiliated company. In most cases, these clicks can generate anywhere from pennies or quarters per click up to a dollar or more.
Pay per lead affiliate programs - In this type of program, the affiliate website is compensated every time that a consumer registers an account on the merchant's website after clicking on an advertisement from the affiliate site.
Pay per sale affiliate programs - When a consumer makes a purchase from the merchant after clicking on an advertisement on the affiliate's website, then the website owner is compensated depending on an amount that was previously agreed upon.

Pay Per Click is beneficial only if you are having a huge volume of traffic on your site! Otherwise its sheer waste of time.

Hi,
Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. Examples include rewards sites, where users are rewarded with cash or gifts, for the completion of an offer, and the referral of others to the site. The industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as 'retailer' or 'brand'), the network, the publisher (also known as 'the affiliate') and the customer. The market has grown in complexity to warrant a secondary tier of players, including affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates and specialized third parties vendors.
Regards.

affiliate marketing is an online marketing strategy wherein an affiliate to a merchant gets rewarded if a customer visits the site of the merchant through the affiliates site. However there may be variations in this as some merchants may follow Pay per lead /Pay per sales besides followinf Pay per click method.

That's probably the dictionary meaning of affiliate, but affiliate marketing will mean something that is stated above by many people.

Affiliate programs, also known as associate programs, are arrangements in which online merchant Web site pays affiliate Web sites commission to send them traffic. This agreement is generally based on number of people the affiliate sends to merchant's site, or number of people they send who purchase something or perform some other action.
