I was testing are directories link are valuable or not. I found that not all directories sites are valuable but some of them gives value. For one site, I did only directory submission and after that I found that keywords are increasing ranking... Social bookmarking is more valuable than directory because its approved quickly. No admin approval required for most social sites...

I don't submit to directory .These always don't follow.Forum ,blog ,and social bookmarking are good for building links .

I agree that social bookmarking play a important role in the promotion of a website but directory is also a important or we can say that initial part of SEO so we should submit directories because it helps to increase the keywords ranking.

I have left submitting to directories, because first you submit and wait for the lazy admins to review your site and after few days you receive an email that "sorry your site is not approved because of blah blah reasons"

I am now just submitting my news, stories, and articles on social bookmarking sites that accepts the submissions in real time.

Directories are valuable if they have some quality and most of admin are lazy to approve but why don't you use good directories? Social book marking is really new advantage for quick and easy to submit without writing much.

Social bookmarking has worked out better for me rather than submitting links to directories. I hate the wait your go through on directories for getting very little out of them.

I still submit articles to multiple multiple directories because I believe it is a good long term strategy for driving traffic to your website. I also use social media which has recently expanded, almost faster than one can keep up with. Social sites are a great way to generate traffic, but you need to decide which social media networks you can use to achieve your purpose.. There are so many now that it is easy to jump from one to another.I would suggest that you concentrate on 2 or 3 on which to focus.

I don't agree with you as I think content directories still holds relevance and I still rely on these directories for back-links and higher ranking on search engines. Don't you think if you manage to get a backlink from content publisher like Examiner and Suite101 isn't it worth it.

No doubt social metrics and signals are important these days and after Google panda update Google is relying more on social signals and we should definitely incorporate social media as one of the important parts of your overall link building campaign still there is something called "Link diversity" and links from these publishing platforms enriches you link diversity.

Yes we submit continue our site on directories for back link while our submission is approve. When we get new directory list just submit website.

Before I'm doing it because i know that it is part of seo, but when i realized that out of 100 directories i submitted i only got 1 approved after waiting of how many months. For me right now, it is just a waste of my time
