Since this topic was originally posted, Google have changed all their algorithms on how they assess your site.

Lots of very good high ranking websites were downgraded or virtually disappeared overnight.

The reason:- Google now go for content, content and more content. The days have gone when your site gets to PR1 and then with a little tinkering can stay there for a long time. Google use to greatly value high ranking pages that linked back to yours and it can take years to build those up.

You can still ad value with all the old methods so don't stop doing them but just remember that to keep Google happy you have to be a lot more active on your site with constantly changing elements and new articles with fresh content. Keep doing that and your page rank will start to rise again.
