There is no 'best' directory script....
There are many, many directory scripts out there. Not being a programmer, I found phpLD too hard to work with AND there's no user manaul. I couldn't find any useful resources "about" directory scripts/directory software, so I created one here:

There is also an article listing things you should consider before selecting a script.
