Default other ideas on maintaining a forum

One of the things I have noticed recently is forums that appeared to be active then died. I guess there could be a lot of reasons for that - subject no longer pertinent, item is no longer in the news, forum not maintained.

But I was also thinking (because I want to start my own forum soon) that people seem to start off well getting some users and possibly paid posters. But when that is over, some forums die because they have not had the chance to be fully indexed yet and received its own set of users.

It might helpful to forum owners to budget a little money to keep the forum going even after the launch. That way the forum does not look like it died and hopefully the initial work will not have been for nothing.

Just brainstorming here
