What Exactly Are SEO Keywords?

© AffiliateSeeking - This article is not allowed to be re-published but can be linked to.

When I began doing Internet marketing, I was really confused with what exactly keywords are. I heard this term a lot but had very little knowledge on what this is all about and what I should be doing with it.
I am sure that most people new to Internet marketing also has this problem. We thought that once the website gets uploaded to the host, it would already appear on the search engines that are popular these days.

Some people are shocked to find out that it does not work this way. It is not just that it does not work by magic; it is also that you have to do a lot of work to achieve that well-coveted top spot.

Search engines work the same way that telephone directories do. They categorize the different companies (websites). But search engines are different because instead of using telephone numbers, they use keywords. Search engines depend on these keywords to find out where your website would fall under.

The job that you need to do is to find out what words will likely be used by your target market when they are searching for what you are offering. Once you know what these keywords are, you should proceed to place them within the content of your website or on articles if you are doing article marketing as well.

Think for example that you have a business grooming dogs and you have a website for it. You can use phrases like 'dog grooming', 'bathing dogs' and 'pet grooming' as your keywords.

The keywords that you use would have to be identifiable for most of the people who will be searching for the products or services that you sell. It should be similar to those that they will usually use. This can be challenging especially if you are new to the whole process of Internet marketing.

So how should you go about choosing your keywords? First you can try guessing and hope that you are lucky to hit the right ones. If you are, it might be from instincts that you came up with the same keywords that your target market uses.

You can use the more scientific (and accurate) route and use a keyword generator to do the work on your behalf. You can find these online and some of them are for free. Try SEO Keyword tool, Google Keywords, and Wordtracker.

Given that there so many options on free keyword tools, there is no reason for you to not be able to use the ones that apply to your website.
