Creating a web site can mean several different things. You can create a web site on your own by doing all of the graphics and coding yourself. Plenty of people do this but you have to spend a lot of time learning the different things that is needed for this to happen. Making a web site on your own is easy. Make a good web site that people will enjoy going to is hard work and takes a lot of time. Or you have another option. You can pay someone else to make the web site for you while you choose the features and the artwork of the site. This is known as outsourcing the work and while you are not doing the work directly you still have a major hand in how it is being built. We will discuss both of these techniques and show you what are the advantages and disadvantages of both ways.

Creating the site yourself from scratch

When you create a web site from scratch there is a lot that you have to know. Most people will start with the HTML of the site. That is the code that builds the basic structure of the web site. It gives it the shape and some of the basic colors of the site. The next part for building a good modern site that you would have to learn is CSS. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets and this is the code that you would use to position the elements of the site that you created with the HTML. It also displays the type of fonts that you want to use and other extras that gives the web site the look that it will have. CSS is for the presentational layer of the site. While HTML and CSS is the minimum that you will need to make a modern day web site, there are still other technologies that you will have to deal with in order to create a functional web site. If you want interaction in the browser then you are going to need a minimum amount of knowledge about JavaScript. Also to be able to interact with the server and create complex web application features for your web site you are going to need to know a server side language such as PHP and ASP.NET.

Outsourcing the creation of the web site

Besides making the web site yourself, you still have another option that you can use. You can outsource the work for other people do while you just direct it. You do not have to only hire just one person; you can hire more than one. You can hire a person to take care of each of the segments that we talked about earlier. You can hire someone to do the HTML, another person to do the CSS, and another person to do the server side coding. You can even take care of some of the site yourself and have other people do the portions that you do not feel like or have the skills to do. Outsourcing the site might even get it done faster but it will cost you more money than doing it yourself.

Creating a web site from scratch can be rewarding but it does involve a lot of work. Creating a web site by outsourcing can be easier but it cost a lot more money. You must find out for yourself which way is best for you.
