How to promote your affiliate site

© AffiliateSeeking - This article is not allowed to be re-published but can be linked to.

Now that you have selected the merchant that you believe to have the most favorable affiliate program, the next challenge for you as a webmaster is how to promote your own site. Basically you need to increase your site's audience to improve traffic and increase the exposure of your merchant's products and services.

Before jumping into the methods of promoting your website, reevaluate yourself with the questions below.

1 Does my website have quality contents or services that might be useful to people?
2 Does my website look professional and tidy?
3 Does my website have membership features where users can sign-up to create an account, log-in anytime later, and have access to exclusive website features?
4 Does my website have features where I can hook my visiting users to create communities and allow them to post their thoughts about or related to my website's theme?

If your answers to all or most questions above are mainly "Yes," then promoting your website will not be as harder as you think (though it would still require great efforts). You will be confident enough to promote your website because it has useful things to offer to the Web people.

So, how do you promote your site then? There are various ways to do this: publicize through online communities and forums, links exchange with partner sites, offline advertising, among others. Whichever method you want to use, your basic goal is to get new people as they could be the prospective buyers of your merchant's products. In return, your merchant's sales become a part of your site's revenue.

Online Communities and Forums

The first thing you need to try is to join forums or online communities. Search the web and look for most active affiliate forums. Sign-up and become an active member and post threads that would convince other members to visit, evaluate, and criticize your website. This method will help you obtain exclusive comments, suggestions and tips from other webmasters that would surely edge your website. Conversing with the said people might even open opportunities that would lead to links exchange.

Try also registering to online communities that are related to your website's theme or better, to a rival website's forum. Do the same procedures as specified on the previous paragraph and post a polite thread that recommends or suggests other readers to hop on your website. If these people will like your website, they would come back or register into it.

When joining a forum, do not expect that online people will adore your site and do not be discouraged if they belittle it, just let them express their thoughts and appreciate whatever they say - you will see later it is for your own good.

Link Exchange

Another good idea to promote your website is "to be an affiliate of other affiliates." You can make this happen by collaborating with other websites (preferably related websites) to gain additional traffic by exchanging links. The best thing is that this is usually free.

So, why would you want to collaborate with other websites who also strive for better traffic? The idea is like traffic sharing - it would be advantageous if you exchange links with a website that has greater number of members or visitors because there is a chance that a fraction of these users would explore to your site. On the other hand, partner sites would always want to have new people and they could be your website's current members.

Offline Advertising

This type of promotion could also be effective in gaining traffic. You can do offline advertising by disseminating information to your friends, local organizations or communities that can directly benefit your site's services. If you created a serious website that is accessible and made for the general public, you can also spent some few dollars for print advertisements.
